I have been trying to find the best way to learn Hindi. Have any of you been through the process, or have any recommendations of resources to learn Hindi? I need to keep the cost down and I cannnot go to classes at night because I work. Thanks!

I have bought Rosetta Stone but haven't started it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've been using Rosetta Stone. So far so good. I like their system of not translating anything into English. It's very intuitive.

Wendy and Jennifer. I appreciate your help so much! I think that Rosetta Stone is a bit out of the ballpark cost wise for me, and that would leave me with just a few cents left to buy any new Bollywood movies ! :)

I have checked out clips on Youtube,as well as books on Amazon. Some of the clips are quite good, and the ones for children are quite a kick to watch.

Have either one of you read the book "Dreaming in Hindi, Coming Awake in Another Language" by  Katherine Russell Rich ? It is an interesting read.

Yes, I love that book!

Nope, I haven't heard of the book- I'll to check that out but I swear, I am not kidding you, I dream in Hindi sometimes! LOL Also, as I listen to songs that I have "seen" several times in the movie, my brain automatically translates, I am hoping this bodes well for me. Wish me luck and good luck to you guys too!

You guys are so far ahead of me ! I need to work hard and catch up !

No doubt about it, Hindi is hard! But watching hundreds of movies in that language certainly helps one learn it.

I suggest you keep watching the movies with the subtitles and then sometime without them. Learning the script and grammar can be a pain, its better to learn conversational first.

Thanks ! I will give it a try!
