I bought a Roku box to stream movies. I also got a netflix instant membership. I am wondering if there is any other good option to stream bollywood movies. I looked into amazon prime but they didn't have too many bollywood movies for just the basic price. Can anybody give me advice on other streaming video providers on Roku or otherwise.

Their interface for Roku is pretty clunky when it comes to searching/browsing. There are a few Indian channels you can add for free through the Roku Channel Store, but their selection is pretty slim.
Best of luck!
Permalink Reply by Rahul on February 1, 2012 at 3:51pm I went to my netflix account from my computer and added all the movies to my queue. Has anybody tried Amazon prime? What are your experiences with that? I looked at the Amazon website and couldn't find many hindi movies that they include with the prime membership. Some of the movies I searched out, they want to charge a rental fee on top of the yearly prime membership fee, but maybe there is a trick to searching for movies included in the membership. Amazon prime membership is available at half price if you have a .edu email address which would make it considerably cheaper than netflix.

Permalink Reply by MLiz Eller on February 2, 2012 at 12:23am Amazon Prime: a membership service that provides cheap and fast delivery for Amazon products, which recently had a supplemental perk of selected free streaming rentals added to it - largely rentals that will not generate much income as a pay-per-view.
Netflix: a membership service that provides rentals and streaming videos.
Amazon Prime doesn't really compare at this time, it's primary function wasn't designed to provide free unlimited movies.

Permalink Reply by Lal Singh on February 2, 2012 at 7:01pm I don't know any services but Youtube has a whole bunch of them in their foreign movies section. Same with Hulu. They are also available for renting, but I doubt you're interested in that.
Permalink Reply by Kathy Gibson on February 3, 2012 at 2:34pm Mela is a relatively new subscription service that specializes in Indian movies and TV shows. They have their own set-top box, an iPad app, and can be streamed on a Roku box. The only downside is they don't have a lot of Bollywood movies with English subtitles at the moment, though they are in the process of adding subtitles to many of their Hindi films. Right now, Mela has exclusive rights to distribute "The Dirty Picture" in the U.S. (with subtitles!). Here's a link to their site:
How do I find the foreign movies section on Youtube? I forgot about Hulu too. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow, thanks Kathy! A whole new world just opened up to me! Lol!

As Kathy stated below, Mela's a great service if you want an option for high quality legal streaming of Bollywood movies. The Roku channel is just $4.99/month for unlimited access to literally hundreds of Bollywood films--compared to Netflix, which doesn't reach 150 titles, even with its recent additions. Also, as Kathy said, Mela's in the process of adding more subtitles to its films and it's aiming to have its entire catalogue subtitled eventually. Here's the link to get Mela on the Roku: http://www.mela.com/Roku.

See my comment below about Mela. It has a much better and bigger selection than YouTube--many more classic and recent Bollywood hits, and its only $4.99/month on the iPad App or Roku channel for unlimited access to the movies. Here's the link again to Mela's site: http://www.mela.com/

I checked out Mela's site and it all sounds good, but I don't have a Roku or iPad to stream through. I do my streaming through a blu ray player and a PS3 game system, but I don't see on there where I can stream through either one of those. Or am I not reading the site right and I can stream through those?
Permalink Reply by Anisha Jhaveri on February 17, 2012 at 3:42pm No you were reading right! Right now it's only available on the Roku and iPad App but there are plans to expand onto other platforms. However, it's are also available on a set top box which you can purchase from the site--that comes with an annual subscription free but more selection in terms of TV channels and regional films.
