Genre: Romance
Length: over 2 hours
Rating: 2 out of 5
Worth Seeing?: Skip

New York: 1 hour 20 minutes into the movie, and all you see is multiple
and unsuccessful attempts to suicide by the lead pair (Ranbir Kapoor and
Priyanka Chopra) with predominantly night shots with multiple songs
thrown in without any relevance. If you have seen the promo out there in
YouTube, there are two scenes with slightly comedic situations, and
that is all that you see to lighten you up until this time.
Cinematographer has not captured one shot from the city of New York that
is worth mentioning. Why go to New York if you cannot capture anything
worth seeing, not that it could have redeemed the movie a lot without
any story.

Post 1:20 hours: Suddenly the movie turns into a road movie, and a
beautiful aerial shot of somewhere in southwest of US looms in. And
that's about it as for capturing beauty of USA. Here is another of my
rants - why do Indian movie makers show - and this is not the first time
I have seen it - an Indian character with bad driving habit? The movie
shows multiple shots when they show Ranbir driving the car in the middle
of two lanes. In fact, once they show the car on the left lane in a
two-laned highway with solid double line in the middle, which means
don't cross over to the wrong lane as it is dangerous. It is not ok to
show bad driving habit anywhere, let alone in here - in USA - where even
bad drivers don't often drive on the wrong lane or in the middle of
lanes.

Now we move over to Las Vegas. Nothing much happens here except that
they bump into an old friend from New York and the scene moves over to a
bar. In fact other than repeated scenes of attempted suicide, another
scene that has been repeated many times are the bar scenes, twice in New
York, then in the middle of nowhere in a gay bar, then again in Las
Vegas. Coming back to Las Vegas, again, why come all the way here
without capturing beautiful shots of its night lights. For that matter
subsequently in San Francisco also all they do is keep showing sideways
shots of Golden Gate bridge, which I could see on the Internet. I don't
need a movie to show me that.

Ok, ok, why am I harping so much on bar scenes, driving habit, and
capturing beauty of US of A? What about the story? Precisely, because
there is none to speak of. In fact Siddarth Anand has thrown in so many
songs at the drop of a hat without any rhyme or reason, only because he
has no story to tell. So, if there is no story, at least capture
something which is eye candy or eye catching. Sorry, cinematographer and
director - you failed miserably in both. Siddhart Anand - your Bachna
Ae Haseeno and Salaam Namaste were much better fare.

1:50 minutes: This is the first sensible dialogue in the movie that you
could relate to when Ranbir says that they gave death so many chances
but failed, but how many chances have they given to life. The end of the
movie back in New York is so predictable, rushed, and lame that you
feel like laughing - for a change something to lighten you up. And since
when American coast guards, who try to rescue the duo from suicide by
drowning, have started to speak Hindi?

The only redeeming feature of this movie is excellent (4.5 out of 5)
musical score by the talented Vishal Shekhar team. Sadly, good music has
been wasted by inept story. Go and watch it, if you have money and time
to waste.

Thanks for the review - I haven't seen it, but it sounds like a very disjointed film.
